Five Minute Friday: PLACE

I'm late to write again but I'm getting two prompts in a row done so that is something. So here's another Five Minute Fridays (after another long hiatus) encouraging bloggers to write on a prompt unedited for five minutes.

This week's prompt: PLACE

BEGIN:

We returned from a weekend away at a place that is quickly becoming a family favorite.

Camp House.

A family camp up north.  One of the first responses the kids came up with when we made our summer bucket list.

A place where we disconnect from life's distractions and instead focus on family, faith and the beauty of God's Creation.

A place of sung meal time prayers (with actions), a few days of family adventures, and visiting beautiful state parks.

A place of agate and blueberry hunts, relaxing and exploring the lake, and evenings of campfire worship.

A place full of memories and slowing down and experiencing the largeness and closeness of God's family with existing friends and new friends.

A place that we have come to treasure.

Five Minute Friday: TRY

I'm almost a week late but I really want to start writing more, even though its fun to post lots of pics on the blog too! So here's another Five Minute Fridays (after another long hiatus) encouraging bloggers to write on a prompt unedited for five minutes.

This week's prompt: TRY

BEGIN:

I say variations of it over and over everyday...

"Take a deep breath and try again."  "Don't give up yet, just try." "Keep trying, you can do it"

I say it to the child frustrated buckling their seat belt, or whining for help finding a missing shoe (after looking 2.4 seconds), or facing a homework problem that just seems too hard, or asking that I take apart a pair of stuck legos.

I say it in hopes of encouraging, teaching perseverance or patience, and not giving up.  And (if I'm being honest) in hopes that it buys me a few more seconds before I switch tasks for the millionth time that day.

Does it work?  Sometimes.  Other times I have melting child on the floor or some similar variation.

If TRY isn't working, then what.

Well, when I'm frustrated, doing something hard, or faced with something that just seems like too much, how does my Heavenly Father speak to me?

Yes, patience and perseverance are important.  But first I think it would be His presence.

"I'm here with you." "You are not alone." "Together we can do this"

This is what I need to remind myself when my kids are exasperated, frustrated or facing something that just seems too big for their little selves.  They need to know I'm on their team, they are not alone, and together we can work through this.

They need my presence more than my words.

Flowers with my new 90mm Macro

As I mentioned before, I'd been giving macro photography a try on instagram in May.  Well, amazingly I won the contest that was being hosted and got a brand new Macro lens for my Nikon camera!  So now I've been learning how to use it and its been fun!

And I know its not for everyone, but I love how black and white show off the amazing details that God puts into each flower...

Camping with Friends (photo overload)

Before all our 4th of July fun, we spent the weekend camping with a group of friends that has been camping together for quite a few years.  Its great to camp with other families as the kids really enjoy having friends to hang out with.  There were campfires with s'mores, bike rides, lots of games, and an afternoon at the beach.  Plus the park had some great events at the nature center.  Great memories!
